We are having the annual debate over an apology for slavery. Me personally, it's not an issue that warrants much time. However, when a politician says that blacks should get over it, shouldn't that apply to everyone? Why celebrate the Confederacy? Honestly, living in a state that celebrates Confederate heritage makes me want some statement to the effect of "While we celebrate Confederate heritage, please don't construe this to mean that we still condone slavery. That was a blemish on our past."
What should we do for everyone to get over that period in our past? I don't advocate forgetting it, just accepting it for what it was and moving on.
