If morgage lenders all decided they were not going to link any of their mortgage offerings to the base rate, wouldn't this just mean the BoE would have no control & noone would care what their base-rate is?
Why aren't lending interest rates solely controlled by competitive forces between lenders, like many other prices in our consumer-driven society?

It seems there are more rich Democrats than rich Republicans because Democrats do receive the greatest revenue of political contributions from the rich. There must be a different mind-set developed from the source of their income. Is it "new money vs old money"? Is it "small business vs big busness?" is it "guilt over 'easy' money vs respect for 'hard earned' dollars?" Is it "working with hands" money vs "inside work, no heavy lifting" money? Is the wealth difference related to basic differences of Dem vs Rep such as ... Dem=use govt to level the extremes of life position and Rep=encourage personal effort to rise to higher life postition.

Like if the price is $2.50 a gallon, they put a small 9 beside the 0. Should that 9 matter to me? Why bother putting that up on their signs? I'm still paying 2.50 a gallon no matter what that number is, so why?
