It has several meanings.

Economic as opposed to uneconomic basically means capable of making a profit.

economic activity as distinct from other activities means something where the work involved is directly or indirectly paid for (usually with money).

use a dictionary... probably means you know like the money or goods that you have to run something. I guess something like that, it aint "cheap" for sure.
