I am interested in learning physics. Are there any good self-teaching books on physics out there? Thanks!

I want to know how long it takes for an electron to absorb a photon, jump to a higher orbit, and then return to its lower orbit while emitting its photon. Is it known how long this process takes? Maybe a nanosecond or is that just too long?

what will happen to the man or object drop in that straight hole that goes from this side of the earth to opposite side of earth ( just assume its possible to dig it). Will he pop out to other side of the earth towards the sky? assuming he got a suit and gadgets so he will not burn in the core area or any gadgets to complete the fall to other side of earth.

I read that you should fill your vehicle's fuel tank up on colder days as opposed to warmer days b/c on colder days the density of the gasoline is higher thus u get more gasoline (mass) per volume (gallons). That seems reasonable but how much of a difference would it really make? (eg how much more dense is it say at 10 deg. F as opposed to 60 deg F.) I tried to research this a bit and now I am also wondering what the difference is between 'winter grade' gasoline and 'summer grade' gasoline??

i wus thinking about gravity space and time fore a long time[after reading a book on enstein],then i had "the happiest tought of MY life" it is so deep even i dont fully understand it.I beleav that gravity, space ,and time can be deeply unifed in a amasing way,and in understanding this unity we will know the ansors to our hardest ? about theas subjects and more

Two physics students are trying to determine the instantaneous speed of a bicycle 5.0 m from the start of a 1000 m sprint. They use a stopwatch to measure the time taken for the bicycle to cover the first 10 m. If the acceleration was constant, and the measured time was 4.0 seconds, what was the instantaneous speed of the bicycle at the 5.0 m mark? [please explain in detail]!

The answer but how? [below]
It's NOT 2.5 m/sec BUT the answer 3.5m/sec <---how, please explain in detail!

An electric heater is used in a room of total wall area, 137 sq. m., to maintain a temperature of 293 K inside it. The walls of the room have 3 different layers of different materials. Innermost layer is of wood of thickness 2.5 cm, middle layer is of cement of thickness 1 cm and outermost layer is of brick of thickness 25 cm. Find the power of the heater, when the outer temperature is 263 K. Assume no heat loss occurs through the floor and ceiling. The thermal conductivity of wood, cement and brick are 0.125, 1.5 and 1 S.I. unit respectively.

A car is parked on a cli® overlooking the ocean
on an incline that makes an angle of 22:0±
below the horizontal. The negligent driver
leaves the car in neutral, and the emergency
brakes are defective. The car rolls from rest
down the incline with a constant acceleration
of 4.60 m/s^2 and travels 48.0 m to the edge of
the cliff. The cliff is 38.0 m above the ocean.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.81 m/s^2.
a) How long is the car in the air? Answer
in units of s.

What is the car's position relative to the
base of the cliff when the car lands in the
ocean? Answer in units of m

I read that time slows down to a stop at the event horizon, because of time diolation, so to us watching from a distance it would appear to take for ever to fall in.
