It's like you have to force it down.
Is there some scientific reason behind this?

Would this work?
You have a craft that can go straight up and down.
It breaks the gravitational pull of the earth and hangs in space, full of travellers, whilst the earth naturally spins around.
Wait until the country you want to go to is under you and re-enter the earths atmostphere.

just an idea...

If the atmosphere gets thinner and thinner, and gravity diminishes as you increase elevation, why cant shuttles, or jets for that matter, simply go higher and higher, until they just slip out into space? (Why is it so hard to escape the upper atmosphere that is so thin, and gravity so light?)

I mean like instant freeze. A person is standing in a room and the temperature can be instantly turned down to freeze the person immediately and kept at that same temp... let's say a year later, could you unthaw the person and have them come back to life? what about 100's of years later?

For statistical purposes please include name of community/city you live in (i.e. North Park, Chula Vista, Del Mar, University City/UTC, La Jolla, etc. I'm trying to determine if this is popular with San Diegans and will share my results with those who e-mail me to request the final tally. IF you're really daring, give me your street name (but NOT your actual address - that can be dangerous as you don't know me & I don't know you) - I will do a plot of those who give me a street name and will share it once it's done.

I was looking out my window and out there was an animal that looked like a giant, really fat, white rat. It's tail was long, gray and just like the kind a rat would have. Its face was long and its belly dragged on the ground. I know it wasn't a rat, since for its size it resembled a small dog. What was it?

Where the bl*ody hell did a Duck Bill Platypus come from? There is nothing in the fossil record of anything coming close....

They are mammilian
They lay eggs
They look like a duck
Bets of all....
They have a poisonous spike underneath one armpit...no other animal exhibits this trait..there is only one other poisionous mammal (if memory serves) and that lives 1000's of miles away

Doesn't the Duck Billed Platypus prove that God really actually probably exists and evolution is just a book-of-the-week fad:

No one else would have been silly enough to come up a design like that!!
