Maggots are Fly eggs hatched, before they morph into flys. Flys must find the body to lay eggs - not likely if it is in a sealed crypt and 6 feet under. For a better description on the life cycle of maggots, go to the wikipedia description. There are pictures if you search for Maggot on the Yahoo Search.
You know that Maggots eat rotten flesh. That said, they can be used to cure very bad injuries. The eat the rotten flesh, leaving only the good flesh. A Doctor needs to control that though, and they cannot cure death.
Sorry for your loss, and for my insensitive truthful answer.

I have no idea if its true or not...
but maggots are fly larvae.
Fly's come and lay eggs on a corpse. The eggs grow and hatch into larva and eat the surrounding tissue.
Generally speaking larva only eat dead tissue (even dead tissue on live people - leading to a good way to get rid of bad tissue)
Maggots are used to estimate time of death in homicide, and pretty much they will get at everything if the conditions are right.

How long was it that your friend was dead before he was found??
Flies larvea turn itno maggots before they are a fly, so this would have to be about 2 weeks time, I would guess.

A maggot is the larva of a fly. They don't form, they're baby flys :)
