It's like you have to force it down.
Is there some scientific reason behind this?

I love drinking water, but if it's been several hours, it's hard to down a glass of it. Not the taste, but it's like my body doesn't want it, even though I'm thirsty

The oft-quoted 8 glasses of water a day applies to normal circumstances (i.e. normal levels of perspiration, potty breaks, body temperature and a static diet).

Some days you'll perspire less, though you probably won't even notice it - especially if you live in a drier climate. A dietary change can cause you to not crave water. Two examples come to mind: (1) if you ate foods rich in protein, your body will start to break down your stored carbohydrates. When this happens, the breakdown of the carbohydrates will yield water...and two things can happen with that water --> either you excrete it or your kidneys recycle it back into your body. In the latter case, this *may* suppress your thirst. Example (2) if you normally eat foods rich in sodium and potassium, your basal thirst levels may be high because of these salts. Cut them out of your diet - even temporarily - and your thirst level may decrease.

Either way, your body is always right. There's a reason why you don't want the water, so don't force it on yourself.

I don't know if there is a scientific reason. I know that most of it is in your head.. I used to hate water and force myself to drink it, but when I started doing it..as time went by.. I wanted more and more. Your body will ask you for it after a while, and even if you drink other stuff, you will still feel thirsty without it.. I CAN'T LIVE IF I DON'T DRINK WATER!

Well, I love water too! Just yesterday, I drank 5 bottles of water :T I find it hard not to survive on water since it washes out all the residue that's left in the body. I also drink water because it prevents me from attaining pimples.:) What a life saver. Well, I think sometimes your body doesn't need any more water since 80% of your body is water and that you need to drink something gaseous or what not.
