im algebra today we were joking around and my teacher said no one has died from doing math but later said that someone had exculy died from doing math and that who ever could tell her first would get extra credit that I need. I know most people dont just say what they want in a best answer but I like telling people. What im looking for is not only an answer but also the most sorces that says so.

The question asks "The X-intercepts of a porabola are 5 and -7. What is the equation of the axis of symmetry? Explain."

I already know the answer is 12 by using simple + and - but is there a way to do it algebraically?

Thanks

sqrt = squareroot
^2 = to the 2nd power.
Ok heres the problem:

x^2 - 10x + 21 = 0
a=1 b= -10 c= 21 Right?

x= -b +/- sqrt b^2 - 4(a)(c) over 2(a)
Thats the formula

Now does b go in the formula as -10? or 10 because the formula says -b not b so would that make it 10?

I have to show that the density of the sum of 2 independent random variables is equal to:
f(x) = 1/(2sqrt(π)) * e^(-x^2/4)

Now I know that the formula needed is:
[-infinity to +infinity]∫f(x)(f(z-x)

And that a random variable X has a normal distribution if it has density:
f(x) = 1/(sqrt(2π)) *e^(-x^2/2)

This is what I’ve done so far:
(1/2 π) ∫ e^(-x^2/2) * e^(-(z-x)^2/2) dx

Now just focusing on the exponents:
(-2x^2 + 2xz)/2 – (z^2/2)
= - (x^2 – xz) – (z^2/2)
= - (x^2 – xz + z^2/4) – z^2/4

So the integral is now:
(1/2 π) * e^(-z^2/4) ∫ e^(-(x-1/2z)^2 dx

I said that the integral can be evaluated by subbing in u = x-1/2z.
du = dx.

So now I’m left with:
∫e^(-u^2) du.

I’m confused by how to get from this expression to 1/(2sqrt(π)) * e^(-x^2/4) because I thought that ∫e^(-u^2) du couldn't be computed.

Many years ago in the far off land of Chanzania, a prisoner was to be executed. The king of Chanzania was a sporting fellow who thought highly of good thinkers. The king offered the prisoner a chance for freedom. He was given 100 black balls and 100 white balls, and was told to distribute them any way he liked. He was then blindfolded and told to draw a ball at random from one of the urns. If he drew a black ball he would be executed. If he drew a white ball, he would have his freedom. ( The urns were rearranged.) The prisoner was smart so he was set free. How would you have distributed the ba;;s in the three urns?

In ancient times, four mathematicians discovered this game of logic. The four men were Hermos, Xentos, Appino and Tenedos. Hermos seated the other three men one behind the other, so that Xentos saw Appino and Tenedos, and Appino saw only Tenedos. Tenedos, who was in the front, saw neither Appino or Xentos.
Hermos had five hats which he showed to the three men. Three of the hats were grey, and two were white. Then Hermos put a hat in each man and tossed the remaining two aside.
“what color is your hat Xentos?” asked Hermos. Xentos did not know. Appino did not know the color of his hat either when asked. Tenedos, who could not see any hats at all , gave the right answer when he was asked the color of his hat, what was the color of his hat? How did he figure it out?
