required result/possible results of the 1st yellow= 50/200=1/4
times the same for the second 49/199
=(1/4)*(49/199)=49/796

There are 200 total pieces. There is a 50/200 chance of getting a yellow on the first draw, then a 49/199 chance of getting a yellow on the second draw. The probability you want is the product of these two = (50/200) * (49/199)
= (1/4) * (49/199)

Find the total amount of gum: there is
40
+35
30
50
45
-------
200

So the chance of taking a yellow is 50 (yellows) divide by 200 (total).

That is 1/4. Now we need to find out for the second one.

One yellow has been taken out, leaving 49 (yellows) divide by 199(total left).

You multiply these together to find the probability that both are true:

1/4x49/199=49/796.

Total number of bubble gums in the machine: 200

If you buy 2... the chance of the first gum being yellow is
50/200
The chance of the second gum being yellow is
49/199 (49 because one yellow gum is already taken out of the machine by you, and 199 because there is one less gum in the machine)

Multiple these 2 values
(50/200)X(49/199) = answer = ~6%?

OK

So there are 200 pieces of gum. Chances of getting 2 yellow. - Here is where it can get a little tricky.
Let's show how:

Purchase first piece:

Chance of blue 40/200 - 1/5 = 20%
Chance of red 35/200 - 7/40 = 17.5%
Chance of green 30/200 - 3/20 = 15%
Chance of yellow 50/200 = 25%
Chance of white 45/200 = 22.5%

Now puchase second piece:
Chance of blue 40/199 = .201 = 20.1%
Chance of red 35/199 = .176 = 17.6%
Chance of green 30/199 = .151 = 15.1%
Chance of yellow 49/199 = .246 = 24.6%
Chance of white 45/199 = .226 = 22.6%

So getting yellow first time is 25%. Getting yellow second time is 24.6%. Chance of getting both yellow

.25 * .246 = .0615 = 6.15%

Hope that helps.
