Today we were told to revise standard form but some of it I really don't understand. It's probably just a silly misunderstanding but could someone say it in plain and clear.

One of the questions: 52100 in standard form and the answer is 5.21 x 10 to the power of 4.

Our teacher said the dec pl. has to be between 1 - 10. But then wouldn't 52.1 be between one and ten?

Please explain as I have a test!

You may use any of the commonly used operations except 4 factorial. You can ONLY use four 4's. No more, no less. The only digit you can use is 4.

Hint: You can use 4/4, exponents, square root of four, 44, .4, 4 to the square root of 4 power, etc, etc.
The only operation you may not use is 4! (4x3x2x1)

Good luck!

Here is the question:
A toy manufacturer is introducing two new dolls, My First Baby and My Real Baby. IN one hour, the company can produce 8 First Babies or 20 Real Babies. Because of demand, the company produces at least twice as many First Babies as Real Babies. The company spends no more than 48 hours per week making these two dolls. The profit on each First Baby is $3.00, and the profit on each Real Baby is $7.50. Find the number and type of dolls that should be produced to maximize profit.

I used F for fthe number of First Babies and R for the number of Real Babies. All I am sure of is that F is greater than or equal to zero, R is greater than or equal to zero and that F is greater than or equal to 2R. I am unsure of the other equations needed to be graphed, since I keep getting the wrong answers. The correct answer is 320 First Babies and 160 Real Babies. How do you get that as a maximum value?

This is one of the math questions that my 8 year old was given for homework. I've tried to help him. I've been on math site after math site - with no luck. Who gives a 3rd grader this kind of question?! I just don't remember math problems being this difficult when I was his age. Can anyone help us?

What's the answer for the equation:
the square root of 3+4i = a+bi

This is what I got so far:
I squared both sides to get rid of the square root and it becomes:
3+4i = (a+bi)(a+bi).
Then: 3+4i = a (squared) + 2abi - b (squared)
Then: 3+4i = a (squared) + b(squared) + 2abi
So the real numbers equal each other and the imaginary numbers equal each other: a(squared) +b(squared) = 3 and 4 =2ab.

But when I use substitution, I get 4 really weird answers and I'm not sure if they're correct or not.
I got [(+ or -) 2 (+ or -) i] and [(+ or -) 1/i (+ or -) 2]
Are these correct?
