Find the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region bounded by the given curves about the specified axis.

y = 0, y = x(6 - x) about the axis x = 0

Washer method:
V = A * h
V = pi(r2^2 - r1^2)h

Hi. I would really appreciate it if somebody could please help me with my homework or else I get a big fat zero. The teacher wouldn't explain it to me and he told me to figure it out on my own and left. What a jerk. But anyway, whoever gives thorough step-by-step instructions in the easiest way will earn Best Answer by me. Thank you ahead of time! Oh and I don't know what I am suppose to write for the square root symbol. So I will just put / meaning square root. Like /4 would be the square root of 4. There are about 40 problems in my assignment so don't think that the following problems are just so you can do my homework for me hehe. I just picked out the ones that would probably be the hardest.

Simplify each expression:
1) /50 over 9
2) -2/10 times /8
3) 2/126 over /14
4) -/189
5) 4/6 + 3/2 over /6
6) 3 + 2/7 over /7

7) Adding/Subtracting: /8 - 15/2
8) /12 + 7/27
9) -3/2 + /18

I thought I understood this until I actually tried to do it. Okay, so let me get this straight. Say, to get y alone you have to multiply each equation by the coefficient of the opposite equation? In my book, it shows the bottom number being negative. Why?

Here, perhaps if I give an actual problem it'll be easier to explain my confusion.

Here's an example:
(1) 5x+3y=4
(2) 7x-4y=22

In my textbook, they multiply (1) with 4 and equation 2 with 3.
This is where I get confused. In some of these example problems they use a negative for the bottom number and I cannot figure out why. Can someone explain to me what's going on at this step because my book doesn't do a good job in explaining it.

In another example they do
1) -12x+9y=5
2) -8x+6y=-11

and they multiply the first by -2 and the second equation with 3. WHY? I don't understand what's going on here at all!
