Inverse variation relationship is expressed:

rate1 / rate2 = time2 / time1

Substituting rate1 (60 mph), time1 (8 hours), and rate2 (48 mph), solve for time2:

60 / 48 = t / 8

Cross-multiply:


60 / 48 = t / 8
60 * 8 = 48 * t
480 = 48t
10 hours = t
