Please somebody tell me if this is wrong. We did a lab on reactivity in class (mixed a buch of metals w/ a bunch of nonmetals), and a post lab question is to say what ions tin and lead formed by looking at our data. I don't really no what this means, but here was my thought process.
The possible valences for tin and lead are +2, +4, and -4 right?? And since metals always "want" to lose electrons, and non metals always want to gain electrons I figured that when they bonded sn and pb would get a +2 or +4 charge, cuz they lost electrons. However, my instinct just tells me this is wrong, and I didnt use the data like the questino said to. I would appreciate any help, and promise to give 10 pts to best answer. at the very least pls confirm or deny my thought process.

Alright, i have a project due tomorrow, and i need your help..

Aluminum Chloride (AlCl3)
I'm trying to make this into a Lewis Structure, but I'm not sure if im right or not..this is what i have so far..
. . . .
: CL = Al - CL:
| . .
. .
: CL:
. .

So im saying that Cl in the left, has a double bond, while the rest of the Cl have single bonds..

Cl has 7 electrons around it and Al has 3 electrons

Hope you can bare with me, i'm so confused, and hope you guys can help me out..

1.Carbon absorbs energy at a wavelength of 150. nm. The total amount of energy emitted by a carbon sample is 5.98 × 105 J. Calculate the number of carbon atoms present in the sample, assuming that each atom emits one photon.

2. An FM radio station broadcasts at 90.2 MHz. Calculate the wavelength of the corresponding radio waves.
i got 9.01 10^7 m

A tree killed by being buried under volcanic ash was found to have a ratio of carbon-14 atoms to carbon-12 atoms of 4.8x10^-14. How long ago did the eruption occur?

(The answer is 2.7x10^4, although I'm not sure how they got that answer... could anyone explain what I have to do?)

Can you still use the equation m=nM?
Lets say you have 0.00000245mol of potassium-40. Are you allowed to assume that M=40g/mol and then multiply it by the moles in order to calculate mass?

Is it even possible to calculate the mass of an isotope, or am I losing my mind? (Nuclear chemistry is making me go crazy, seriously).
