In energy terms, ionization of an electron in an atom corresponds to the transition from whatever quantum state the electron is in to an energy of 0 kj/mol. calculate the energy in joules needed to remove one electron in the n=1 state from a hydrogen atom.

N=1 is -1312.04 kj/mol, but i have no idea what the question is asking me? help!!

observed lines when hydrogen is excited in a discharge tube (using a prism), we see violet, blue-green, and red as the brightest and some other very dim colors.
the question is:
can you think of one or more likely explanations of the origin of the variation in the observed intensity of the colors?

thanks!

I really need help with a water titration question, if someone would be kind enough to e-mail me at mcgowacd@Jmu.edu i'd greatly appreciate it. I'll then e-mail you my question or we could talk about it over msn, yahoo messenger, or aim. I basically have to find out the amount of calcium in my water, I'm pretty sure I have all the information to be plugged into the equation, but its just boggling my mind. Thanks, Chris

I'm having a hard time balancing two chemical equations...

The first is the chemical equation for the reaction that occurs between nitric acid and magnesium hydroxide. I think the unbalanced equation is : HNO3 + MgOH = MgN + H2O.

The second is for the reaction between HNO3 and PH3.

Any help balancing these equations is deeply appreciated.

Perhaps I overheard that they would add iodine......
Yet I am not sure. Suppose lithium is not reactive enough, right?/
