I got a cutting of a plant from my friend's mom and she said the woman who gave it to her called it "Christ in the Manger." I think it's a tropical plant--it has unusual compound leaves that look like large leaves with leaflets coming off the sides from the ends of (some of) the leaf veins. It has long spiky/ropy things coming off the top with little thorns on them.

It blooms at night, and only for a couple of hours. It has a red bud thing that looks like it has straw or something coming off the sides of it, and it's on a stalk (I think.)

I guess it somewhat resembles a baby in a straw bed, at least to people with good imaginations.

Any idea what the scientific name is, or characteristics? Anybody ever grown one? She said they really dig fertilizer--what else?
