tube 1: plasmid + buffer + restriction enzyme A + water
tube 2: plasmid + buffer + restriction enzyme B + water
tube 3: plasmid + buffer + restriction enzyme A + B
purpose: determine length of fragments made by restriction enzymes.
question: why does control (plasmid + buffer + water) have to be the same volume?

I genuinely need help with this: "A student sets up the following experiment. She purchases 5 punnets of marigold seedlings and 3 pieces of different 'thickness' shade cloth. She pots up each marigold into individual pots and gives each a pinch of fertiliser. She divides the pots into 5 equal sized groups. She constructs a box out of each piece of shade cloth, places one group of pots in each and places them, side by side, in full sun position in the garden. She places another group, without any shade cloth, next to them and another group inside a garden shed where they will receive no direct light'.

a) Give a suitable hypotheses for the experiment.
b) Give two other environmental variables which might effect the outcome.
c) Suggest two ways to improve the accuracy of her experiment.

i'm really stuck on this so i'm hoping somebody can help me. :-) thankyou

1. Structurally, how are biological fuel (sugar) and ‘exhausted’ wastes (CO¬2, H2O) different?

2. Where is the biological ‘energy’ in a molecule of sugar?

3. Glucose is broken down in order to synthesize ATP. Where is the ‘energy’ in glucose? Hint: Glucose is broken down by combining with oxygen to create CO2 and H2O. Hint: Natural gas is methane, CH4. Glucose, water, and carbon dioxide. How do they differ structurally?

4. Ethanol burns. CO2 and H2O do not. What does this tell you about the energy extraction efficiencies of fermentation vs. oxidative phosphorylation?

I do well in my science classes when it comes to individual work/reading/homework, but when it comes to hands-on work, I'm always the slowest in the group! I'm constantly having to ask my group questions, like "Oh, what are we supposed to do" "What is this used for?" "What was the measurement for whatever" "How do I set this up?" "Should I do this"? I don't know what it is, everyone else seems so much more take-charge than me, and I'm kind of sitting around writing down what everyone else is writing, not participating at all. Consequently, I am excluded and no one has me do anything. This is not good if I plan to be a doctor.

How can I learn to "get with it" and be more independent when doing in-class science experiments that may require assembly of tools, etc. Because I know I'm irritating the people I work with.

So I believe in the Theory of Evolution. A few co-workers and I were talking about the subject and came to a new question (new to us and our discussion anyways); when does adaptation stop being adaptation and start being evolution? I would like to think that adaptation is not genetically transferred from one generation to the next where as evolution is. Through natural selection or some mutation we evolve, right? What do you think?
