Look at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=179&month=12&year=2007&obj=sun&afl=-1&day=1

It shows that sunset in New York is at 16:28 on Dec 12 but at 16:31 on Dec 21. I thought sunset is earliest on the winter solstice. The site does show that it is the shortest day, however.

can somebody give me a basic explanation of a reflecting telescope and a refracting telescope please?

i think im right in saying a wider aperture gives a better telescope because it catches more light, is this correct?

however, does the length of a telescope make a difference?
and by extension of that question, will a longer focal length make a better telescope?

when i talk about better im talking about resolution and magnification. i understand what these words mean. so, what effect would it have on these 2 things if i was to increase the focal length of my telescope and why?

and does it work one way for a refractor and one way for a reflector? if so, then why?

Some time ago, i bought the Meade MySky. I understand that to have it identify a star, i have to look between the two lights in the back, see the one light up front, and then position that one light under the star i want to indentify, then click. When i do this, i find that every time i point to the same star, it tells me its something different. I must be doing something wrong, but i dont know what.
Is the celestron SkyScout easier in this regard? I tried looking at their website to see a demo, and it said i need flashplayer to view the demo. I installed flashplayer twice, and then tried to watch it, and each time, all it does is tell me again that i need flashplayer to view it :-(
Please share any advice, experience,or suggestions you may have. Thank you

Is it true what they think about it but it is not like that because those guys confirmed but other guys says it is and government says we do not know still people think it is and others do not know about it but the fact is that it is true still many of them want to confirm it as they are not at all sure about it as few of them still thinks it is possible but others do not agree with it..and i am not sure if it is true as far as i know it is but many of my friends says it is not and they also asked others but they do not want to comment on it as they do not wish to talk about it as others still trying to figure it out still i want to know..

So what do you think? Is it ture?

Remeber reading that this is based on the theory of relativity. This means that even if we did reach such amazing speed - it would take around 20,000+ years to reach another galaxy or another planet. Considering this how can it be possible for UFOs (if at all its true) to visit us (it will take the same period )
for them too)

Does this means that this UFO businees is 100% fake?

a solid "rock" would seem to keep spinning "balanced" but if it rotated (with its gravitational "pull" of its orbiting moons' gravitational "pull") with an orbiting moon reacting like it does with Earths tides it seems friction should have a much bigger effect on either the moons' orbiting distance from Earth and/or the rate of rotation of the Earth.
