In much the same way that people once thought the world was flat, can we be certain that travelling through space far enough won't eventually bring us back to where we started?

Is there evidence to

Hi, I'm in the UK. Every night when i look out roughly east I see a really bright star, whih then proceeds to "move" northwards throughout the night. I first noticed the star two, maybe three months ago which if odd as several people also commented on seeing it first around then!?
Could anyone tell me what it is please?

Hi folks firstly this isnt for me as i have some grasp of astronomy myself but a fried of mine asked

"why does the moon always seemed to appear in the sky nearly ever night shouldnt it sometimes be on the other side of the planet"

now i couldnt word it correctly but i thought it had something to do with 'tidal locking' i know only one side of the moon always faces us but was curious how to explain it to my friend (who's generall knowledge is shocking! XD

cheers folks!

This is hard to explain, but I compare it to positive and negative numbers. A star would be positive, a black hole negative. As the stars gravity makes it collapse, its 'number' gets smaller. when it finally reaches the black hole stage it is a negative. That is not the theory, but it helps to explain.
Since a star keeps all gravity as it shrinks, couldn't a black hole be like a mirror reflecting a stars 'positive' number, appearing as the opposite of it, and the star is its true gravitational pull?

Would this then lead to the end of creation besides the black hole?

Astronomers are saying that the universe is made of 12 dimensions. Out of that we are very familiar with four- lenght, breadth, height and time. Can anyone explain what the other 12 dimensions are and how the universe would look ( I know the latter is difficult but can anyone try-?)

Forget about the spacetime continumium theory of 3 spacial and 1 temporal (time dimension). I`am referring to the 3 spacial dimensions up-down, left-right, forward-back.
Length, Width, Height..etc. I see no reason to believe that space itself is 3 dimensional do you? People believe that space is 3 dimensional because matter and motion through space is 3 dimensional. This does not prove that space itself is 3D.
1- Thinking on a sub-atomic level. There`s 3 attractions. Proton attracts to Nuetron. Neutron acts as a medium attraction to hold Protons to nuclues b/c protons are postively charged and would repel each hneger. Electron(neg) attracts to Proton(pos) but it kept at bay by nuetron.
2-Sub-atomic particles are the building blocks of all matter in the universe.
3.Matter and motion is 3d b/c if matter could move all directions at once it would break attractions which bind matter.
4.Hence, motion/matter up-down left-right is 3d.
5.There is no evidence space is 3 dimesnional.

Does time exist in space? I mean we calculate time from the sun rising from the east and setting in the west, with that process it comes the one day. We calculate years from our earth going around the sun. So I came with the question; Does time exist in space?

For school I have to design an alien to live on Mars. And our teacher gave us some features that we have to describe as well as explain why or why not for each individual point. I was wondering if you could tell me how these relate to the planet Mars. E.g. does the kind of skin relate to the atmosphere?

kind of skin
number of openings
appendages
hard parts
hard outside parts
size
sensory parts
eating
defensive parts
reproduction
plant eater
predator
moving around
body shape

Thanks!
