A particular river follows the quadratic curve f(x)=x^2, while a nearby road follow cubic curve g(x)=ax^3+bx^2+cx+d.

There are three bridges on the road and they cross the river at the points (1,1), (0,0) and (1,1). The bridge at (1,1) is at right angles to the river. A dam is located at (1,2). The dam is not on this river. There is a straight spillway from the dam to the nearest point on the river.

a) What are the values of a,b,c,d?

b) What are the distances between teh bridges, as the crow flies?

c) At what angles (give both radians and degrees) do the other two bridges cross the river?

d) Where does teh spillway from the dam intersect the river?

e) A straight road is to be built from the existing road to the dam. Where on the original road should it start to have minimum length?

I spilled some potassium dichromate solution (about 0.02 M; the stain's a little larger than a quarter) on my jeans. I know it's pretty toxic; are there any special precautions I should take to wash it? Can it just go in the washing machine, or should I try to get the stain out and dispose of it with lab hazmat (and if so, what should I use to wash it out?)

Suppose that X is random variable with a mean of 5 and a variance of 9. If y = 2x^2 + 4, find the mean of Y.

I used the equation variance = e(x^2) - [e(x)]^2

9 = mean(y) - 5^2,
34 = mean(y)

The answer in the book is 72. Can somebody help me?

I am currently working with Synthesis Reaction, Decomposition Reaction, Single-Replacement Reaction, Double-Replacement Reaction and Combustion Reaction. I am given a few problems and told to do them, but I do not understand them, here is my first one

MagnesiumBromide + Chlorine ------>

Now I do understand balancing after you get the entire equation, but what I don't understand is how to balance the above, get the second side of it and figure out witch of the above 5 types I gave it will turn into. If anyone has either a really detailed site explaining how to do this then I would love that or if someone would like to show me how to go through this problem, then that would be awesome as well. Ill go ahead and give one more in case someone decides to show me how to do this and I would be pleased with a second walk through as well with this one.

Aluminum + Iron(III)Oxide ----->

Please and thank you all!!
