Hank, observed that the side of one field was 1 kilometer longer than the side of the smallest field was 1 kilometer longer than the side of the smallest field and that the side of the largest field was 3 kilometers longer than the side of the smallest field. Calculate the energy levels of the pi-network in octatetaene, C8H10, using the particle in the box model. To calculate the box length, assume that the molecule is linear and use the values 135 and 154pm for C--C and C-C bonds. What is the wavelength of light required to induce a transition from the ground state to the first excited state?

I found that the box length was 1002pm long...That's all I can figure out...The book is completely worthless...Any ideas on how to begin or sources of information?
