Yeah, it's sad that people died, but this kind of thing happens all the time all over the country. Doesn't the media hype things up more than they need to just to get ratings? If you want any news network for a consistant amount of time, you will see countless false alarms where they think some disaster or calamity is going to happen somewhere, and it turns out to be something stupid with a legitimate explanation.

I remember a few years back, they anounced that astronomers had found an asteroid that was destined to hit the earth and destroy all life in the year 2026 or somewhere around there. The next day, we were all told it would miss and we would be fine.

What are your thoughts on media hype?

What does it mean when we say that the media plays the role of enforcing social norms? Do you think that it is problematic that the media encourages us to follow these particular norms?

Is anyone as tired as I am of the media freenzy surounding the tragic accident in the NYC VFR corridor? The media types are looking for sinsationalizm and titilating news gossip. Debbie Hersman from the NTSB is doing a great job and sticking with the known facts. I certaintley hope there will not be a knee jerk reaction brought on by mis informed political powers and news media prattle.

I'm trying to research frood and drug store prices going back decades. The newspaper insert ads for such stores would be a logical place. The regional newspapers offices say they don't keep that information, since it's up to the ad buyers to do that. The stores' offices say they don't keep their old ads on archive, either. And the public libraries say they 1) throw those ads out, and 2) never microfilm them for the archives, both to save shelf space and processing time. Are there any places I should ask?

I know this isn't a question and I'm ready to get reported or whatever for this but this is something I can't just let this go and if I get reported its worth it.
While watching Oprah (yeah what of it?!) she did a feature on a LEGAL organization in operation in the United States of child predators called NAMBLA (National Association of Man Boy Love).
She featured a disgusting vile man who was talking openly about "relations" he had with a 10-year-old boy. These "people" think that children are being objectified by adults to believe that it is wrong to love adult men and they even hand out books. They have special necklaces that symbolize that they are pedophiles to other members.

I am urging you and everyone to PLEASE educate your children (or any children you know or parents you know)

For more info on the show and on this terrible injustice please visit: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200609/20060928/slide_20060928_284_102.jhtml

Hypothetically, suppose you're a journalist who used to work for a congressman, whom we'll call Congressman #1. Then suppose that, in the course of your work, you came across a staff member of Congressman #1's rival in the upcoming elections, whom we'll call Congressman #2.

Suppose this staff member of Congressman #2 (for some inscrutable reason) told you about a fascinating legal matter that could affect the election--say, a past conviction this Congressman #2 tried to bury.

What would you do? As a former staff member for Congressman #1, there's a definite perception of bias on your part.

But suppose it's a really pertinent piece of information...

Because my husband is on the board of the village that we live in, I have been elected to do the monthly newsletter. It will be the local news from our village, baby births, new neighbors, crime rate statistics, maybe a recipe... just news from the neighbors. I need a name. The village is HARBOUR VILLAGE. Please help me come up with some type of catchy name.
