If at the showdown an active (in the hand to showdown) player throws in thier hand in face up and announces "I lost" even though they have the winning hand do they get the pot if someone nonactive (not in the hand till showdown) catches the mistake?

I went to Ireland in the summer, and I failed to spot one fruit machine, in any pubs or even in a bookies!

Yes, just a simple confidence (con) trick I could use to cheat somebody out of money (just kidding), or most likely just as a joke. Not some over-the-internet thing, just some kind of impromptu con trick I could use (again, just as a joke) to somebody to cheat them out of money. Thanks :))
