Let's say these were your immediate family members. You bought them a gift and they threw it away, stored it away or gave it away, and then you heard through the grapevine that they called your gift cheap.
What would you response be?
a) I would ignore it. After all, you can't change who people are.
b) I would make a mental note not to buy them anything else.
c) I would confront them about it, ask for my gift back, and then make a make a mental note not to buy them anything else.
d) This is the exact reason why I don't buy gifts anymore.
I choose "b" and depending on how much I spent on the gift "c". I have also started doing "d" as of the last two years. The only gifts I buy are my mother, brother, grandmother and sometimes my father. My husband doesn't celebrate holidays so I don't have to worry about him.
