A few minutes ago $ ANT $, a TC here in this section, came over to Rock & Pop and asked us if we would ever consider listening to a Rap song, which I thought was awesome:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Atkzy3gjARa.Kx_7Jawnq5Xsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071203171012AASSxgd&show=7#profile-info-e5WDTTlCaa

So I thought I would ask the same question of all of you over here. Would you ever considering listening to Rock? And for those who do now, who are some of your favorites?

Thanks for your answers! :)

I notice if I mention some artist from the golden era like Steady B, Powerrule, Stezo, King Tee, or Audio Two the response is minamal, in which I would somewhat expect. So my next question is that if you love the essence of hip hop, do you think it's relevent to understand the history and culture so that the art can be preserved.

A lot of people wonder what I have against Lupe, people think I hate without reason but I have many reasons.
first off, as a practicing Muslim, i feel Lupe "flaunts" the religion like a complete douchebag. Dudes like QTip, Ghostface, Sean P are all Muslims (not 5%), but they dont make it everything that they are about. Lupe made a song called Muhammad Walks, where he 'explained' the religion. Thats like a rapper making a song about the The Nativity of Jesus, where he doesn't talk about anything relevant or personal, just what the religion is. Its some real Charlie Check;em type ish. To me, it seems like he is using his religion as a way to get all his hipster friends to say, "Yo you're a muslim. You seem 'exotic' and dangerous to me. that makes up for the fact that you're a pussyface." To me, religion is a personal thing, not something you use to showcase where you fit in among other people. What makes this even worse are fans who say things like

What (bad) album do you secretly enjoy??? You know, the one that most people would call horrible, the one you're afraid of letting people know about because you're afraid of getting called a b****, the one that was given 2 mics, but you gave it a 4.5, the one you're supposed to hate but actually enjoy, the one thats just plain embarassing, etc. lol...

Ill start it off...

Mase - Welcome Back

I dont know why, but when I heard that first song, and hearing how he came back after a 5 year absence, I had to go buy the album...Amazingly, I really enjoyed, and, sadly, still do. Let the thrashing begin...

Time and Time again, I've always had people that listen to rock music and whatnot, browse through my music collection and see almost 25gigs of pure Hip Hop, they ask why I have so much rap, and if I try to get them to listen to a song, they say "ugh thats crap, anyone can write a rap song."

I'm tired of these stupid idiots that listen to Megadeth, and Black Sabbath saying that Hip Hop is easy to write, because real hip hop is not. And what I mean by real hip hop is artists like Nas, Akir, Rakim, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Etc. Not people like Souljia boy. If you ever take the time to listen to their lyrics, there are multiple meanings behind the songs, and they pair up with a good DJ, to make a solid track.

I'm sorry but I hate Rock Fanboys, and if you like rock, then listen to Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, The Stills, Interpol, and there are a few others that I appreciate, so I'm not biased towards rock.
Great Song though - http://youtube.com/watch?v=UDCDrcZK4NE
Thats real hip hop

For those of you who claim to be hip hop heads but don't know where tupac came from... here's a quick run down. First off his real name is not Tupac Shakur. Lesane Parish Crooks (which was his real name 'till the panthers changed it. He wrote his first rap song in 1986 under the name MC New York. He eventually went on to be a roadie/dancer for Digital Underground (yes, Tupac was once a dancer). They were in the studio and were all freestylin and Tupac jumped in. That's how the song "Same Song" was created (Tupac's first appearance on a DU song). Yes, "Same Song" was completely freestyled by all members involved in the studio. Nothing was written down.
In November of (I think) 1991 his first full album was released "2pacalypse Now" which was then pulled off the shelves in Sept. of 1992. From there he Starred in the movie Juice, and the legacy was formed. If you don't know the rest of the story from here, you're just a lost cause!!
