Time and Time again, I've always had people that listen to rock music and whatnot, browse through my music collection and see almost 25gigs of pure Hip Hop, they ask why I have so much rap, and if I try to get them to listen to a song, they say "ugh thats crap, anyone can write a rap song."

I'm tired of these stupid idiots that listen to Megadeth, and Black Sabbath saying that Hip Hop is easy to write, because real hip hop is not. And what I mean by real hip hop is artists like Nas, Akir, Rakim, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Etc. Not people like Souljia boy. If you ever take the time to listen to their lyrics, there are multiple meanings behind the songs, and they pair up with a good DJ, to make a solid track.

I'm sorry but I hate Rock Fanboys, and if you like rock, then listen to Bloc Party, Kaiser Chiefs, The Stills, Interpol, and there are a few others that I appreciate, so I'm not biased towards rock.
Great Song though - http://youtube.com/watch?v=UDCDrcZK4NE
Thats real hip hop

But playing on a guitar or drumming doesn't mean its a good song either, it just means you have talent at playing a musical instrument. Not anyone can go in and drop great beats in the studio, thats where Airborn Audio failed, alongside other groups that tried to make good beats.
If you pair up great beats, with great lyrics I don't see how thats not a real song, you don't sing and have a computer analyze your voice, or else a DJ would be a large Computer. Rock music alongside whatever else, is people playing instruments well, and having lyrics in the song.

yah...
Some people that listens to rock stereotypes hip hop.

They think that real hip hop is the commercial rap
& mainstream rap that they hear.

There's so much good songs from rap & hip hop that
they don't know... (like from those artist in your list)

I really don't know what's the point of this hip hop vs. rock..
It's just stupid.

Why do people have to stick to one genre?
why do they limit theirselves?

If you're a real music lover you should appreciate
GooD music from all the genres.

Hip hop and rap will never get the respect that other music gets (even country) until rappers and hip hoppers create a song without pressing 'enter' on a keyboard. Same goes for trance, club, industrial metal, and all other music that consists of a guy yelling into a mic while a microprocessor writes the song.

It takes more than good poetry to make a good song. Not all peoms translate well into songs. The artists you cited (Nas, Akir, et al) are probably great poets, whose lyrics are loaded with deep meaning, open to wide interpretation. However, this doesn't guarantee them a good song.

Maybe the people who write hip hop and rap music should write their own material instead of putting together bits and pieces of other people's songs and passing it off as something new.
