Which musician/group had the most promising debut album but went on to disappoint since?

I don't include dying prematurely (e.g. Aaliyah), I just mean not living up to their early promise: Tori Amos, Richard Marx, Chesney Hawkes spring to mind.
I guess we have to exclude one-hit wonders and count only people who managed at least one album.
I'm tempted to include Dream, you can all slag me all you like...

I heard it today and really like it, but I dont know the name of it! I don't necessarily mean new music (musicians from any decade), just music that is new to you...

I was listening to a Charley Patton record and was asked how I came across it. He's a very old blues musician that died in 1934...I have no idea how I found out about him. I think I saw his name in an article talking about notable bluesman, so when I saw the record I got it....

I'm looking for the name of the girl group and song from the late 90's. I can only remember the music video.
