from people who are fans of the genre. I have been impressed with mudvayne, mastadon, and symphony x. I am also a huge fan of Tool and system of a down. (I know all about the prog rock of the seventies and am a huge fan of Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, etc. etc... but I am exploring modern prog metal in this question). So, some knowledgeable suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

what happened to Rock music? It seems like since Rap hit the scene, all good music has ceased to exist! Where are the Def Leppards, the Megadeths, bands we idolized? Why is Rock no longer around and why is R&B, Rap and other Bass driven music so popular? I feel like I haven't bought a new album by a new Rock band in YEARS. Is anyone still rockin' out there?

I was interested to see if anyone had reccommendations on a few good contemporary jazz artists that play in a more traditional style. To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I'm a pretty big fan of Horace Silver, Miles Davis (esp. the album Kind of Blue), and while I haven't heard much, also enjoy Ike Quebec's music. I'm not really looking for the "big band" feel, just a smaller arrangement of musicians who can truly get the jazz feel out to come through in their compositions.

..the song lyric goes "But I can still remember just the way you taste.." What is he referring to? I just wondered if anyone actually knows. If anyone has actually read what the song lyrics are about, that would be really helpful. I think that it means something sort of vulgar, but my boyfriend disagrees. Is my mind just in the gutter?

Ordinary Morning
We Do What We Can

Both of these songs have piano and slow jazz-sounding music. Listening to this music, I imagine Sheryl in a sultry evening gown in front of a microphone with a Jazz pianist and band in the background. The lights are low with a spotlight on her. Smoky bar.

She drives the men in the crowd into a frenzy.

I know there are many older female black artists - say Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Billie Holliday, and Etta James - who did this kind of music. I'm not really interested in Jazz standards - unless they are totally reworked.

I'd be interested if there are any MODERN female artists, black or white, that do this type of music.

I would say Fiona Apple, Madeleine Peyroux, or even Rachel Yamagata.

Those two songs by Sheryl Crow, however, include much more than piano. Electric guitar, a drum beat, rock undertones, and even a muted trumpet. I've not heard anything quite like it except for these two songs. Any help is appreciated.

I have stop practicing on chords because i don't have any idea what sounds to practice next? My favorite sound right now is "Hotel California" because of its nostalgic tast to it. I am hoping to find something similar or better? What is your favorite sound that help you over come your bottleneck?
