What movies would you recommend to someone who usually hates movies (regrets the time spent watching them) and only wants to see the most interesting accomplishments of the medium?

can any one tell me the name of the equipment used to make Ghost Sound effects amongst other in old 1920's and 30's sci-fi films. I know i had 2 electrodes on it 1 strait and 1 round. moving your hands near the electrodes will manipulate the sound
