i'm beginning to wonder the same thing. the movies they keep coming out with are not living up to what the previews and critics make them to be. there are so many remakes and the films usually disgrace the originals.
the new films that do come out follow the same formula. they are very predictable. i am an avid movie watcher. my husband and i used to watch about two to three movies a month. now, we are down to maybe one or two a year.
we have both become so disgusted with the film industry. i've been watching a lot more japanese and chinese films. they are so creative and unpredictable. i love them.
i'm trying to find to good bollywood films to get started out on. i hope hollywood realized what they are up against in the world film industry.
they need to start listening to the public. just guessing at what we want is not helping their movie productions very well.
i have to recommend one film that has been phenomenal. v for vendetta is great. the best hollywood as spit out in awhile.

I think you may be right. There are some great films coming out of China. The Chinese government is investing an awful lot of money in the film industry. I recently watched a Chinese film called Seven Swords. Incredible movie that matched anything coming out of Hollywood in terms of production values.

With the increasing number of remakes and films on comics, it is clear that there is a shortage in original material. this doesn't mean that Hollywood's time is up, but, this situation opens the doors for competition from the international and independent movies, which will hopefully improve the audience tastes and encourage controversy.

I don't know if it is up anytime soon. But I will say this - they better do a better job than the music industry in embracing the internet. Dvd sales will fall like a rock if they don't figure out a way to sell movies online and make it reasonable. If they try to fight it like the music industry, then people will just find illegal means to get movies online and it will be another avenue of lost revenue.

actually hollywood is lacking new stories and thats why its concentrating on novels and comics. this will give chance to new writers and directors to bring up their ideas and provide the world with something new. this will also give chance to independent movies and foriegn movies to come up. so if u have any new story try ur luck, it might be selected.
