In the James Bond books and movies the code name 007 is given to James Bond.

Is it meant to be two the letters of the alphabet "o" "o" then the number seven?

or

Is it meant to be the two numbers "zero" "zero" then the number seven?

I hear a lot of people use the letter O when they are saying numbers with the number zero or nought in it for example and have always wondered if this is what has happened James Bond code name.
