example-When the Titanic struck the iceberg, the captain and crew assured the passengers that things were under control and they should stay in their cabins, even though this clearly was not the case. This decision led to a greater number of casualties, as many were trapped below decks and many lifeboats could not be used because of the angle the ship was on as it sank. There were not enough lifeboats in the first place for all the passengers on-board.
Today many of our leaders in North America and the world are telling us not to worry, just carry on as we have been doing, there is nothing to worry about and, uh, we have no lifeboats.
