To my partner, we've been throught quite a rough patch and had a break, I love him and usually write something really from the heart, but I dont want it to sound cheesy or pathetic, now we're back together.

I am quite good at spelling and grammar. Sometimes though, when I make a grammatical slip-up I know instantly its wrong. Therein is the problem, and its happened.....too late not to be slightly embarrassed in the company of educated conversation. The me, and I, ''thingie'' is always my stumbling block.

English isn't my native language, so I need a native English speaker to help me solving this question. I just had a short conversation with a friend of mine and I didn't know what to answer his question. Because we had not seen each other for quite a while, he asked where have I been. What can I say if I face the same question next time?

Is there a difference in the way the following words are pronounced singly and spoken as part of a conversation?
I am trying to find out the pronunciation that is most commonly used locally and/or abroad.

Words ending with ~sts
eg There are in the living room.
Should it be something more akin to "guess" (meaning that the t is silient) or "guest-s" (with a "tuh" sound followed by "s" sound and causing a slight pause in between)?

Do you have any references on how names should be pronounced?
eg Is J
