In a paper that is more about myself, so I don't have to use sources... I wanted to quote my aunt who once said something to me. Do I need to do a reference page since it came from a casual conversation or not? Also do I need to use APA format for her after the quote, I'm mentioning right after the quote that those were the words of my aunt.

Is there a more genteel way to say "don't pee in my shoe and tell me it's raining?"
Our newspaper had a front page article saying our property taxes are being raised and concluded that this is actually good news because it proves city property values are going up while most other counties are declining. I'd like to write a letter to the editor and start off with something recognizable like that, but feel that's a bit crude.

Just making sure I'm not going crazy...

I am writing a business letter for my boss. In one of the paragraphs, I used a quote. He steadfastly insists on putting the quote in italics for "emphasis" (and will not sign it unless I use the italics). However, I was taught and believe (I have a BA in Professional Writing) that italics are for the titles of major pieces only and using it for emphasis is lazy writing (i.e. your wording should have enough emphasis that extra things like italics and bold are not required).

Majority wins...who's right here?

As a side note, I'm going to rewrite the letter so that it does not use quotes so that we avoid this stupid debate. I'm just curious if anyone else has been taught the way that I have.

Vanuit de herinnering, het bewustzijn.
Vanuit het bewustzijn, het verlangen.

"The day she died the neighbours came to snicker
Well that's what comes from too much pills and liquor
But when I saw her laid out like a queen
She was the happiest corpse I'd ever seen."
