No one lives a life of constant sorrow except by choice. If there are no ups in life to bring joy, then there can be no awareness of downs to be sorrowful about. The only way to be of "constant sorrow" is to choose to maintain a constant mood of discouragement, rather than enjoy the good times for what they are at the cost of feeling a loss when something unhappy occurs.
In other words,he is Eeyore from Winnie The Pooh.
Let him be, let him enjoy his misery in peace, and move on to people that are more fun to be around. You can't bring him up, but he can bring you down.

A man of constant sorrow is unfortunately cheating himself of happiness by never allowing himself to experience the joy of knowing how it would be to share the good things in life with others, who in effect, he is also cheating by never giving them the chance to enrich their own lives by knowing, and perhaps in the end, loving him.

MERCUTIO
Come on, you can be as angry as any guy in Italy when you're in the mood. When someone does the smallest thing to make you angry, you get angry. And when you're in the mood to get angry, you find something to get angry about.
