In both, Numbers 6: 23-26 and 2 Corinthians 13:14 the blessing is not outward and material…..Furthermore, this blessing is not related to having any kind of position in the church. Sometimes when we consider our situation, we may be disappointed and feel that we do not have anything. We may feel that nothing is real, not even in the church life. What a blessing it is to have His face, His presence, and to enjoy Him daily as grace! The more we suffer, the more we enjoy the triune God as grace. What a blessing it is to have His countenance smiling upon us, assuring us, and confirming us! And what a blessing it is to have peace in Him, by Him, and with Him!

SInce you did not mention this in conjunction with the phrase "God bless you" after someone sneezes (in case you are - it is referenced because when a person sneezes their heart stops beating for a moment - back in the day, people were afraid that someone would die and therefore the phraise "God bless you" was supposed to reverence the Lord and their place in heaven)

Personally, I like to say this: May the Lord God bless you real good!
Now, if you mean if someone just says to you "God bless you" - it is a type of sentence prayer asking the Father in Heaven to recognize the person you are talking to. You are asking God to especially recognize the person and to extend his care, his love, his peace and joy to that person.

Sometimes I mean "Gesundheit" - sorry you sneezed, hope you didn't get it on me. ;0) I used to not say God Bless You after someone would sneeze because it was pagan to think you had demons in you when you sneezed. People would say it to keep the demons away, but after years of not saying it I felt rude. So I started saying it to be polite.

Or Bless Your Heart - Wow, that was stupid -or- boy, you are going through a rough time. I hope things get better. :0(

and sometimes Have A Good Day! =0)

When I say, "God bless you," I mean, "May The Supreme Being of all Creatures Here Below give you His love."

I had heard somewhere that when a person sneezed, it was beleived that meant that they were "expelling" the devil from their body. As such, others would "congratulate" the person for doing so, and that they were to be blessed by God.

A variation on expelling the devil--I've heard it's to keep a ghost out of you after a sneeze.

I think "Gesundheit" just means "good health," like "salud" in Spanish.
