Is there a more genteel way to say "don't pee in my shoe and tell me it's raining?"
Our newspaper had a front page article saying our property taxes are being raised and concluded that this is actually good news because it proves city property values are going up while most other counties are declining. I'd like to write a letter to the editor and start off with something recognizable like that, but feel that's a bit crude.

I think your quote is probably nicer than any I can think of. Use it! It will get their attention, it is not overly offensive, and I think it's darn cute!
