A manufacturer can sell a certain product for $80 per unit. Total cost consists of a fixed overhead of $4500 plus production costs of $50 per unit.
(a) How many units must the manufacturer sell to break even?

Be assured I DON'T want the answer but I need to figure out how to find it. If someone could give the equation or how to set up the equation for this problem that would be help enough!

Thanks in advance,

I dunno why, but she continues to insist that this is the answer, and there's no way I could figure it out. I graphed the general equation:

y = 16.50(2)^x
(where x is groups of 35 years)

and then graphed y = 36.50 and used my calculator to find the point of intersection: (1.1454305). Multiplying this by 35 to get the number of actual years, I got about 40. Adding this to 1996, you get 2036. My math teacher absolutely DEMANDS that we figure out how to get it at 2040. How did she get that? She even did it to verify her work and got the same answer again. Am I insane or something?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

My son has an extra credit question in general science. He needs all the extra credit he can get.
The question is what's the difference between a lion and a slinky? The clue he gave is a cd with lost and found on it.

This is the same teacher that gave the question that dealt with particle man.

I hope some one any one out there can help out. I'm at a lose on this one.
