I heard them clearly stated one time many years ago but have never been able to remember them. One example of an exageration scene: You are watching someone order at a restaurant. When his food comes it is a tiny bit of food on a huge platter. Clouns have big noses and huge feet. Exageratioon is making something too big or too small, too loud or too colorful. You get the idea.
