I live next to the railroad tracks and there is a problem area. It used to be a continuous track and the crew from hell came and replaced a small section of track, now nobody sleeps because it makes too much noise. The small section also keeps coming loose and I am afraid the train is going to derail one of this days.

I was reading an old rail road book. It said in the 30's that the name J B King was written on alot of cars across the country.
I'm guessing he was a hobo or perhaps a railway labourer.
does anyone know?

I am researching the history of 0-4-0ST industrial steam locomotive built by Pecketts of Bristol in 1936, works no. 1893. It worked at Ironbridge and Stourport power stations until 1977 when it was withdrawn. It is now preserved in working order at the Coleford GWR Museum in Gloucestershire, UK.

If anyone has any photos of this loco or any other documents between 1936-1977 I would be grateful.

Anyone know of instances when somebody became confused and re lined it under a moving car? Still, I would keep away to be clear of trailing debris or just to be safe. It seems like if you lined a switch and locked it, you are not likely to get confused and do something regrettable.

I love trains. I love to cook. I thought it would be alsome to work on a train cooking for the travelers. I want to know, is there still, train trips like that in The United States? If So Where? Do they get paid well?

When the cars are put on the train, who holds onto the keys? Do they get to the terminal before the train does or does someone on the train holds them. Can someone roll the car off the train while it is moving? How much does the rail line pay for insurance if the car is damaged?

Do the companies who have the spur running into the land tell the rail company remove it? Or do they use contractors? What if the building is abandoned does the company that is reselling the site do anything with the spurs or do they just pave them over and let the land be sold? Would the rail company put locks on that switch so it stays on the line that is being used or do the engineers have to worry about it?

I need to know how a train that was used in the late 1800s works. I think that was the steam-powered train. I need like an explanation or a diagram or a website.

I'm planning a history for my model railway layout 'Kingsford', and I want to know whether the two regions overlapped.
It si primarily based in the BR (LMR), but from living in London for most of my life, I absolutely love the NSE colour scheme.
I really want to add some NSE trains to it.
For more information on the layout, visit www.kingsfordstation.blogspot.com, or email me at kingsfordstation@gmail.com

in an automobile, while turning only the front wheels change direction and aid turning. The rear wheels are fixed and do not have any play. What would happen if rear wheels also turn at the same rate and in the same direction as the front ones. Woludn't this help the vehicle to turn faster?

See, nowadays as our population increases, the length of the trains too is increasing incredibly! Each and every time we find, it is hard some and exhausting job to walk in the lengthiest platforms for never ending time with luggage and children! And there would be no clear-cut board to denote where all the unreserved and reserved coaches arrive. Most of the time due to the abnormal length, the tail portion would be away from the station few miles in distance, where normally no water or canteen facility found!!
My fear is, if some thing goes wrong in the middle of the compartments, the message may reach the guard after some weeks only, such a length of coaches they attach!!
WHY NOT WE MODERN PEOPLE TO USE OUR BRAIN FOR NOT TO SUFFER LIKE THIS? Why not we make arrangements to enter through various gates, with reference to the coach number? Why not the Railway put a community officer to check the lack of facilities, WHICH CAN BE DONE WITH A LITTLE USAGE OF SENSE AND NOT GREAT AMOUNT?

Can any American railfans assist a Brit? I've a book which includes a picture of Dale Creek Bridge on the Union Pacific taken c1870. This is being crossed by a double-headed passenger train. The train engine is numbered 766 which looks to be a 4-4-0. It is odd, however, in that it has a cab where one would be expected, behind the firebox. That firebox appears to be fairly lengthy, but in front of it , and over the boiler, and behind the dome, there appears to be another cab. Can anyone explain the operation of this loco? I have tried a google, but couldn't find anything.

Train A is traveling at 30 mph. Train B is traveling at 45 kph. The conductor on Train A is 45 years old and he has 12 kids. His 12 kids are riding on Train B. 3 of them are boys and 9 of them are girls. Train B and Train A are on the same track. Train B is traveling behind Train A. At this very moment they are 1 mile apart. Train B is equipped with hydraulic brakes while Train A is equipped with electric brakes. There is a north-west wind coming from the south. The cargo on Train A weighs 400 1bs. When Train B eventually collides with Train A, assuming yx=9a, how much cargo will be left on Train A?

Yesterday, I went to railway station to give a send-off to my friend. When I was standing near the window of the train, I could remember the Hyderabad express, the same out-look as it was in 1977!! Nealy 30 years gone by!! And there is no little improvement found!!
THE WORN OUT COACHES, WELDED AND PROJECTED AWKWARD PIECES HERE AND THERE ERRATICALLY, SHABBY, DUSTY,DILAPATED AND HIGHLY UNCLEAN WE COULD SEE ANY WHERE IN THE WORLD!!
That too for a one day, two days, three days-travelling trains!!
My question is, how come the Govt allowes such "ancient" pieces to move on the rail road?
Let the world community come and put value for the coaches comparitively, we know certainly, they will not put more mark than a " very big Zero"!!

MY question is: Why cant we make 50% railway to privatize, to keep it in competitiveness?
Why cant we do like, we did in Telephones and in Airlines to enjoy good journey experiences?
Other than this, what are the real solutions?
