Why would the government of China continue to lend money (by buying US Treasury securities) at a low interest rate, while at the same time borrowing money (in the form of issuing its own government securities) at a much higher interest rate? How is this likely to play out? If China cashed in a portion of its US bonds, what effect would this have on the stock market and on interest rates?

My Mom had a house fire that destroyed her records. How can I find historical records of stock prices without having to pay a broker an arm and a leg? I enjoy research. I just don't know where to start.

Trying to match or beat national returns for real estate .I plan to use ETFs. This is not downpayment money (ie first 20%) but money above and beyond that. Just curious as to allocations, and I could always get a bigger mortgage and wait to withdraw if the market dropped significantly right before buying. Right now Im thinking

Domestic Dividend ETF 25%
International Dividend ETF 35%
REIT ETF 7%
Utilities ETF 6%
TIPS ETF 9%
Intermed Corp Bond ETF 18%

Any suggestions appreciated especially from those significantly experienced in financial planning.

I go to school during the day so I can't really buy/sell/check stock prices whenever I want to. Is there any phone/PDA/ or device out there that allows you to buy or sell stocks? Can you add details like prices, size, etc...

I use Charles Schwab by the way.

Thanks!

I save 4K for my 2006 IRA, but don't know what fund(s) to pick. Most funds required a minimum of $2500 to start. How can I split 4K for 2 funds: international and mid cap growth?
Thanks for all the suggestion.

I'm doing a math problem, and it says: "A certain stock begins the week trading at 87.5 per share. If the average gain for the next four days is 0.5, by how much should the price of the stock increase during Friday so that the total gain for the stock during the entire five days is 5 percent?"

According to the explanation given by the book I'm using, a gain of 0.5 is a gain of 2. How did they get that?

I am just looking a way for extra income. I don't trust the stock market and myself too much and I am kind of short of money now. That's why i can only afford $250 to start. But if I am doing well, I'd put more money into it. So help me out. Don't answer it if you know how it is going on the stock market.

I'm 20 years old and would like to learn more about investing in stocks. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get started? I know absolutely nothing about this, so please try to keep it as simple as you can. It might help me to know how you all got started in this game. What were your first moves? What do you consider to be essential information for a beginner? What were some of the mistakes you've made? How much money do I need to start out with?

I'm not really looking for book recommendations because I've already ordered some--just general adivce or guidance that you wish someone would have given you when you first started investing.

Thank you!
