The other day I got a 1924 penny and I was wondering if it had the same value as 1 penny or more and if it is more, how much?

Generally speaking, yes it is worth more than one penny. How much more depends on the relative scarcity, determined by the mint (look near the date) and condition. Mints are Philadelphia (no marking), Denver (D), or San Francisco (S). The closer it is to uncirculated, the higher the value.

Below is an online guide where you can look it up. Alternatively, look for the Red Book at your local library (see 2nd link).

Pennies minted in 1945 aren't worth much. The more valuable dates (for Lincoln cents) include 1909S V.D.B., 1914D, and 1922 Plain. 1931S is also pretty collectible. A 1955 double die error is worth a lot (MS65 would likely fetch $10,000 or more), as are other double die errors (1972 double die obv., 1983 double die rev., 1971S double die obv. proof).
