I've been investing for 10 years now. I'm convinced it's not possible to beat the market. Can anybody out there do it over the long-run besides Warren Buffett? I can't afford a share of Berkshire, so I'm about to give up and just buy index funds.

One of my friends told me that his company is currently in "Phase C" in the investment banking process. I've never heard of the term "Phase C". I was just wondering was it something that he made up to make me feel ignorant or was it something that I'm actually not familiar with?

I am just beginning to learn about investing and am familiar with the concept of compounding. I hear experts talk about starting early so that compounding can work its magic. I can see how it works on say a savings account that pays monthly interest. But when the experts suggest investing in stocks because of the higher rate of return I'm not sure how compounding can apply since stocks don't pay interest they just increase (or decrease) in market value and only some pay regular dividends.

I am in my mid 20s and have both a 401K as well as a Roth IRA and small amounts of stock. Am I spreading myself too thin? Should I focus all my efforts on one or the other in order to maximize my earning power for retirement? I am aware that I have time to be aggressive, but I lost quite a bit in the market after the tech crash and have yet to realiz my original investment from the stocks. Thanks.

My boyfriend told me that the reasom that ticket prices went up was because of the stock market drop this past Tuesday 2/27. He thinks that the stock market influences prices this fast. I believe that they do but not so fast (maybe 1 month's time). We both agree that what a company does affects stock prices negatively or positively. We disagree on how fast stock market 'drops' affect consumers. I'm saying the increase in ticket prices due to Spring Break, JetBlue's cancellations 2 1/2 weeks prior. He's saying is the stock market. HELP!!!!!!
