Most brokers have some sort of base pay, with the bulk of their income coming from commissions. It's a tough job from what I've heard. Remember, it's basically a high end sales job, so you have to constantly be on the lookout for new clients. Some brokers get absolutely obsessed with that fact and can't even go to a normal social function without trying to "network" the room.

However, it can be extremely lucrative. Many brokers make in the mid six figure income range. If you're willing to be a high pressure salesperson who works lots of nights and weekends, go for it!

Yes brokers get a base normally. About 50-60% of stock brokers go crazy sometime in there career. So be ready for major stress. You will never experience anything like it. THAT I GUARANTEE.
