for example. If I buy SPY, isn't that like buying an S&P 500 index fund? There are no management fees involved right?

I think I have a good ability to sense if the price at the pump is going to go up or down, so I'd like to trade on that. The problem is that I don't know what to trade.

I'm looking at the prices found in the charts on gasbuddy.com and trying to find an investment that matches it. The etf ticker symbol USO is somewhat close, but not close enough. The price of gas 9/10/06 and 3/22/07 is about $2.60/gallon. However, the price of USO on 9/10 was $60.04 and it's $49.77 now. That's a huge difference.

The special section notes the Clinton proposal. Stock profits are from private corporations and investors. Would you allow a politician to use your profits for alternative energy development without your knowledge or approval? Could this be a political ploy?

What do the "Big Boys" short, how do they "signal between themselves" that they need to pull out of the market for a bit? Do they have their computers tied to a program for this? Is it geared to key words in some news service on words like "subprime" and "inflation" being mentioned so many times in a given time period by certain people?

I am a young, 23, and very intrested in real estate. I love to watch property buzz on HGTV! I live in deep south texas and prices are significantly low compared to the rest of the country. I could get a 4 bedroom 2 bath for under 250k! I have looked at prices and the market in my area. What would be the next step? And when looking for a bank to have my mortage, do i mention i am going to be fixing & selling within a year or so? If i get a 300k and buy a 250k home can i use the extra cash to remodle or make the monthly mortgage payments, how does that work?

Any website recommendations?
TIA

I want to know what "stocks" take advantage of a drop in the various stock indexes. In the opposite way that "SPYDERS" (SPY) mirrors the S&P going higher and 'QQQ' mirrors the Nasdaq index.

What are the symbols for the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrials and Nasdaq index that mirrors those indexes when they are dropping in price? I am not looking for "defensive" stocks, but those that actually go "short" the major stock indexes. I am also not interested in any mutual funds that negatively mirror stock indexes.

Thanks for your help.
