The statue crowning the U.S. Capitol is called "Freedom." Yet it was a black slave who figured out how to coax apart the 19½-foot, 15,000-pound plaster statue so it could be cast in bronze and rejoined atop the dome.
Slaves, in fact, helped build much of the building and grounds of Congress, and the White House

Earlier today I asked a question concerning the American road and the myth/identity issue. I would still be very glad to receive answers and I'm glad for the ones I already got! In response to Jack's answer, I would like to say that I'm aware that speed and mobility are very characteristic of the Americans. But that doesn't necessarily contradict my argument that the road is part of the American identity and that a myth of the road is being/has been created. If it wasn't for the road, there would be no mobility. And with mobility so present in American identity, the roads must be so too. Don't we all tend to romanticeze old times (cf. roads?) Haven't we all heard our parents talk of much better times when they were children? Even if life was harder then? What has helped create the myth of the road is fx Jack Kerouac's novel 'On the Road' which has been the inspiration of many road movies. It's good to know, though, that not all Americans romanticize the road. And I thank for your input

I am not sure if it was the late twenties to mid thirties (29-35).
Do you think that the roaring twenties influenced radio shows, in the sense that they became more conservative thereafter?
Sorry a third question, When did prohibition start and end please?

I'm currently writing my master's thesis on the road in the US. I want to explore its mythical status with roots back to the first settlers and the 'frontier thesis' (how the American was moulded on the frontier). I also plan on looking at Route 66 and explain how it has added to the myth of the road. Finally, I intend to look at road movies and explain how they keep the myth of the road alive.
I'm not from the US myself, and therefore I'm interested in getting in touch with 'real' Americans who would like to share their thoughts on the road with me. Is the road still mythical? Why/why not? Have you ever been on a road trip - or do you intend to go? What does the road symbolize to you (both the road in general and Route 66)? Do you think the road is part of the American national identity? Or only the whites' identity? Is it possible to find personal identity on the road as portrayed in many road movies? Please explain to me what the road means to you as a person and a people. Thanks

Vlad, a son of hereditary underlords in the Moldovan Region Ukraine, sought to keep his people free from the rule and interference of the Turk's and Catholic Church. He saw them as Slave maker's of his people . While away on a mission (border defense), political enemies in his kingdom sought out his wife, and convinced her that Vlad had been murdered, and that his killer's were on their way to the castle to murder her. Determined to die free, she jumped from the castle height's.

Upon his return, Vlad was grief stricken, and took immediate revenge. Once that task was gruesomely accomplished, Vlad sought out the Priest to perform a majestic burial for his bride. The priest refused, telling Vlad she was a suicide, and would never be fit for Catholic burial, or a place in God's reward. Vlad vowed to never again step foot in a church. Often, he punished priest's he found lacking in moral's they should've been exemplar's of.
What was the name of Vlad's bride?
