i need to do a research on one influencial american person living and "vital" from 1607-1877.

here is the criteria:

1. i have to be able to find at least 4 scholarly sources on the person. (or semi-scholarly sources)

2. person must have lived a good portion of life in the USA. It has to be someone in American History.

3. NO PRESIDENTS- apparently that would be too easy.

this is a history 1301 class, so i think the teacher wants us to focus on someone during the founding of the country.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It is clear that all the lives that were lost in the American Civil War to insure a 'new birth of freedom' were in vain. By 1880, the South had defeated the weak Northern efforts in behalf of the freedmen, and had re-enslaved the *****.
Assess the validity of this statement using the documents and your knowledge of U S History.

My two main points so far are Black Codes- basically outlined the way emancipated blacks led their lives
and Jim Crow Laws... If you have other ideas please help! Thank you

I read about this cool Julius Work Calendar in a book called, The Year 1000. The calendar has illustrations of people ploughing fields, feasting, and other random stuff. It was made around 1020 AD. I seems cool, and I want to learn more about it. Where can I get more info?
