Anyone have a theory about why it's now so common? When my son was young it was 1 in 10,000 births. Not it's like 1 in 100's. What is your thoughts on this? I don't want to read a book or anything I just wanted peoples personal thoughts, opinions and theories. Preferably parents of autistic children.

My son is now 17 and is doing really well.

I've been looking for a book that I think is called "House of Gods". I recently went on a trip to Italy and Greece and a lady mentioned this to me, it's basic story line (that I understand) is that it is about a woman from our time with modern ideals and such and hates it and is transported to the past, to ancient Pompei to be exact...I have searched B&N and Amazon and cannot find a trace of it so my question would probably have to be "Do I have the wrong title?" and if so "PLEASE HELP" this book sounded very interesting and as a History Major seems like something I'd like to read. If anyone could help I would be eternaly (sp?) grateful. Thank you so much!

Presumably the quote is from a theist, but I think it's probably true. Superstition is easy - it's intellectual laziness, an unwillingness to think things through, examine evidence, question what your religious leaders tell you to believe, examine your own beliefs and instincts. Rational thought is not necessarily easy, it doesn't necessarily come naturally, and that's why it's so important for us to help and encourage people to think for themselves. This is the answer to the perennial question of why atheists have to be in the R&S section - so that fewer people may think that it's OK to take the easy way out.

Well, simple enough question, would you rather be blissful and unable to think for all of eternity (the only way I could see that heaven as is is described in the bible could work, but I'd rather not debate that here), or capable of rational thought, possibly even more clear rational thought than your present ability, with constant pain for all eternity?

Does anyone else here think that Conan OBrien works for free!
Every once in a while I tune in his show and try to watch the entire show, but try as hard as I have... for the life of me...I havent been able to do that.
There is something about his looks, his voice and that silly stupid "flailing helplessly thing" he does, that makes me feel sick and wanting to change the channel. Does he and his people that put him there really believe he is funny and has talent? Surley he works for free and only gets expense money to do the show!
