I'm going to Madrid in January and I'd like to blend in a bit. I mean, I'm sure it will be incredibly obvious that I'm not from there when I open my mouth and they hear me speak (I speak Spanish, but certainly not like a native speaker; and while my accent is good, it's definitely not a Spanish accent), I just don't want to attract too much attention, good or bad.

What kinds of things would a young, urban, female Spaniard do/wear/say/etc?

I've been told to dress fashionably (no jeans and T-shirts) and not wear tennis shoes, because that's a dead giveaway that I'm from the US. What else should I know?

Gracias por los consejos.

I'm going to Madrid in January for a week. I'd like your opinions on what kinds of clothes I should bring, what kinds of other things I should bring, what I should do (aside from all the museums that are already on my list), anything in particular I should see, or whatever else you have advice on. I don't want to do anything too touristy, so I'd prefer not to go on any guided tours or anything like that.

Also, I don't want it to be too obvious immediately that I'm from the US, so what should I wear/do/know to make myself fit in a little better?

(También, sí hablo español; por favor no me digan "Bring a Spanish dictionary" o alguna otra respuesta así. Gracias.)

Thanks!

I’m going to Madrid in august, for school. I’m trying to pack some of my clothes now, and I’m really confused about what should I take with me? What do Spanish girls tend to wear? How could you describe their style? In my country girls usually dress up, and wear high heels, not all of them but the big majority… but I’m not sure I’ll need those dressy clothes and high-heels shoes in Madrid, actually I’m pretty sure I won’t…
I can only take with me about 20kg, so that’s a problem too…need to take clothes that I would definitely wear over there.

I'm going on a tour and the brochure said you may need some shots. I've tried calling the embassies but they seemed kinda pissed today.

I have tried everything except direct dialling this number from my cellphone. I went to the webcafes and the same thing happens, an operator comes on and says its not free so hang up now, or stay on and accept the charges. I stay on, but I am always disconnected. I bought a phone card, "Euro Hours" by "Lebara" but it will not connect at all. How can I call this 1-800 number in the United States from Spain?
