I earn the same as you, but pay less rent, however it is possible to live on a small amount in Spain, as I have a young child to support too.

Avoid eating out at all, or "popping out for a beer", since although this is much ceaper in Spain, I find the cost adds up.

Shopping at LIDL is very cheap, I buy food there every two to three weeks for approx. 50 €.

Good luck!

Try sharing the rental with someone in your same predicament... That might cut it in half...
Yes you'll find Dia...and Plus & LIDL..
Then you can go to the local outside markets that have fruit and veggies and other things also (each town has at least 1 per week, just ask around to find out what day it is)
There are also other chain stores that are more economical...such as Mas and Baly.
Mercadona gives you the best quality for your money.
For fun outings, buy yourself a bottle of mineral water, some fresh local bread and make yourelf a good "Bocata" then go to your nearest beach (I am presuming that you will be somewhere along the coastal area). If you are in a large city, find the prettiest park and just do a "people-watch".
Good luck You'll need it. Living on a shoestring isn't easy...
