I adore Mexico! Most people only know Cancun or Acapulco, but the "real" Mexico is so much more than that. Morelia, Cuernavaca, and Oaxaca are some of the most interesting places around. The Mexican people are kind and strong of heart and character. The mountains outside of Mexico City are incredible and the air there is clean and fresh (much better than inside the City!). Viva Mexico!

I used to live just a couple of miles from Mexico. Some of the nicest, warmest, kindest people I know have come from there. Some of the most savage, genuinely cruel, and senselessly mean people I know come from there.
I had a couple of bosses from Mexico. One is a big man in his home town because he sent money back and helped hospitals and schools, and once even rebuilt sidewalks along several streets. Another was just another rich man in a rich estate in a big Mexican city. He had a big wall around his home and the picture of how they just threw the garbage over the back wall which separated them from the impoverished neighborhood behind still tells me of the radical class separation. A friend went to Mexico City to work and had to sneak out of the country. He was accused by extortionists of crimes he could not possibly have done. But he paid his fine to the police who arrived to arrest him, then again a bigger fine to the judge that came to hold court in his living room, and then another fine to the police that came to retain him after the original extortioners didn't get enough kickback from the first judge and filed additional charges with another judge. So that let him go before the second judge and his escourts arrived. He forfeited all his furniture and belongings.
I know that there are many towns emptied of working people, because they are in the US and sending money back to parents and elderly relatives. I know of people who go fishing in Mexico and take a lot of extra beer, it is a bribe for the Federales who will inspect his catch and if he expects his fish or shrimp to come home with him, there better be plenty of really good beer because one or the other will be confiscated, often at gunpoint. Still there are many, many good people in Mexico.

As per what I learned in school about it: It is a country to our south, the people are very poor and their economy is terrible. The people who have jobs make very little pay. Their political and justice system is corrupt and easily bought. The people stream over into the U.S. by the hundreds daily, looking for a better life. However the U.S. can only support so many people itself before our economy will collapse and we too will become a country of poor people and then be no better off than Mexico now is.

The Spaniards came and conquered the native population there and forced them to convert to Catholocism. Then the U.S. took a lot of land from Mexico. Now Mexico is reclaiming what was once theirs by immigrating into the U.S.
Oh, and they have delicious food.

Mexico = corrupt government, failing economy. That is why they keep sending their people illegally to the US so dollars can be sent back south...
